As a webmaster, I am always on the lookout for good webmaster tools and SEO tools. I happened across a site today that does double duty.
The site is www.feedsforme.com . Feedsforme is a small specialty
RSS search engine that fetches and aggregates RSS results. This is helpful for webmasters that are looking for
RSS feeds for their reader and/or their website.
It’s becoming increasingly important in SEO (search engine optimization) to provide fresh content on your site and one way that webmasters are achieving this is to use rss feeds. Real simple syndication (RSS) is a easy way to distribute content via the Internet. RSS delivers its information as an XML file called an "RSS feed", "webfeed", "RSS stream", or "RSS channel". While initially used for email newsletters, an option that is becoming very popular is for websites and blogs to use rss feeds to add fresh and relevant content to their sites. Feedsforme.com Allows webmasters to find relevant rss feeds which they can then insert into their websites. Translation… free content.
When you visit feedsforme.com you’ll find an uncomplicated page with a search box and a list of tagged feed topics. From there you can either click on one of the tags such as
entertainment or
blogs and you’ll be brought to a page with a list of rss feeds on that topic. Click on something that strikes your interest and you’ll see the content and be provided with a link to the feed that you can use on your site.
Alternately, you can search the site for the specific topic you’re looking for and in a matter of seconds you’ll be presented with a page of feeds to suit your needs.
I have been using rss feeds on my websites for quite a while now. There are several ways to get the feeds on your site. The SEO friendly methods, and the non SEO friendly method.
If you use javascript to insert the feed it will not be read by the search engines and you don’t benefit from the fresh content the feed provides. However, it may attract visitors who will return to your site because of the content.
If you're not interested in using JavaScript, there are many other tools out there to add RSS feeds to your site. There are tools for Perl or PHP, MovableType, C, Python, Perl, XSLT, and XML.
My favorite method of inserting a rss feed into a web page is a php script. You can search for “rss tools” or “rss to html” and find one that works for you, there are both free and paid services for rss conversion.
So check out feedsforme.com and bookmark it while you’re there. Finding relevant content for your website has never been so easy.
